Microsoft 365: Business Standard vs Business Premium

Previously known as Office 365, Microsoft 365 offers packages with more advanced security and device management. It is designed to bring together Office 365, Windows 11, and Enterprise Mobility and Security, which aims to support the functionality of the day-to-day tasks within your business.

In April 2020, two packages were adapted: Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Microsoft 365 Business Premium. Both offer similar support, with Business Premium providing advanced cyber threat protection.

What is Business Standard?

Business Standard provides Office applications across multiple devices, with the addition of business email, cloud file storage and online meetings and chat.

What is Business Premium?

Business Premium provides everything that Business Standard has to offer, with the additional add-ons of advanced cyber threat protection and device management, improving security for your business environment.

Benefits of Business Premium:

The benefits of this package focus on Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) and features that allow you to easily manage devices throughout your business…

Azure Information Protection

AIP will help you discover, classify, protect, and govern sensitive information wherever it lives or travels. This will enable collaboration of your emails, documents, and sensitive data both internally and externally, by encryption, restricted access, and rights to provide additional protection.

Conditional Access

Conditional access brings signals together, to make decisions, and enforce organisational policies. Azure AD Conditional Access is at the heart of the new identity-driven control plane and allows you to impose control over access to apps within your business.

Intune

Microsoft Intune is a cloud-based endpoint management solution, which concentrates on mobile device management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM). This will enable your business to manage user access and regulate how devises are utilised, including mobile phones, tablets, and laptops.

Defender for Business

By offering complete, ongoing, and up to date defence, Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) will help you detect and mitigate threats such as malware, viruses and spyware over your apps, emails, the web, and cloud within your organisation.

Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD)

AVD will allow you to access your desktop and applications from virtually anywhere. It will help keep your applications and data secure and compliant with security capabilities that can proactively detect threats and take remedial action.

Our Recommendation:

The Microsoft 365 Business Premium License offers advanced protection over the apps and services included, which plays a huge part in your business security and continuity. We’d recommend upgrading your Business Standard Licences to Business Premium, so you can benefit from this increased protection, reducing the risk of cyber-attacks on your organisation.
